Caregiving from a distance
My mother has been in the nursing home for under a week. They've tripled her meds and replaced natural options with chemicals. She got pneumonia in the hospital, so she's on IM antibiotics. She's allergic to the heart meds.
She's getting fed soup and oatmeal because they don't take the time to find out what she can eat; I can't bring her food (nothing home cooked).
She's sicker in the facility than she ever was at home. But I can't bring her home yet because I can't care for her, even with hired assistants. She's still trying to recover from hip surgery. Once I do bring her home, my own health will deteriorate from lack of rest.
For all of my usual optimism, today I'm feeling a little defeated. Wish me strength, patience, and a bit of luck as I prepare to do battle with institutional medicine.
