A veterans credo
As a veteran, I served
so that fellow Americans
might be free.
Free to listen to music,
to dance in the aisles,
to sing in the streets.
Free to salute or kneel
during the national anthem.
Free to be educated
to the full extent of their capacity.
Free to elect or free to oppose
a president that presents nationalist, homophobic, or racist behavior.
Free to worship in a mosque, synagogue, church, or wooded glen.
Free to watch CNN, FOX,
Al Jazeera, or Disney
without impunity.
So do not tell me that veterans
have fought and died
for only one point of view or another.
We don't get to pick and choose
those for whom we are willing
to fight or die.
We fight for all people.
All points of view.
Even yours.
