Sexual harassment
I'm very concerned about the plethora of new sexual harassment cases. "If the crimes were so heinous, why not report the perpetrators at the time?" you might ask. Because the victims were willing to tolerate the bad behavior to get what they wanted...a job, a chance, fame and fortune. And by tolerating it for their own gain, they condoned it.
If every man (or woman) guilty of sexual harassment or sexual misconduct was fired, jailed, court-martialed, or otherwise restrained, there would be few people left in Hollywood, the military, the NFL, MLB, NHA, ISO, or NBA. The casting couch would collect dust. Colleges would have to shut down. Car dealerships would go untended. Industry would fold. No music would be produced. Concerts would be forbidden. Corporate America would be impotent. Churches would be emptied. The government would be dissolved.
Sexism, harassment, misconduct, lewd speech or thought, are pervasive. We as a society have cultivated it. When the question of intent and degree plagues us, we leave that decision up to the perception of the victim, and the degree becomes variable. Until we become a society that rewards civilty, respect, and decorum, these accusations will continue to mount. Until we educate our legal system what does or does not constitute harassment from a legal standpoint, then claims will continue to proliferate the courts. We need a better society, or at the very least, a better legal system.
We are each of us guilty of sexual behavior. When that behavior impinges on the rights of another human being, that's a problem. When it leaves a mark, that's a crime. Don't be afraid to report the crime. It might prevent another victim.
