Christian politics and the bible.

The current political environment makes it look like the liberals are against all things Christian. Let's be clear. It's the abuse of Christianity for political reasons that is offensive.

Being a Christian does not give you the right to cherry pick which parts of the Bible you want to embrace. It does not give you the right to put down anyone, anywhere, then claim it was God's plan.

It does give you the right to worship in the religious institution of your choice and to live your life as Christ would have lived it...assuming we can determine that from a group of 2000 year old documents written by a group of men with political agendas, scripted decades after he died. Inspired by God. Jotted down by men. Embraced by the early church and heavily vetted to support their agenda. Translated by martyrs who were killed for their efforts. Reprinted by King James. Reprinted in modern English.  Nothing even remotely resembling the Nag Hammadi texts.

I applaud those who try to live the best life they can based upon scripture. But you'd better be realistic and understand exactly where that scripture came from. And don't pull your bible out like a Smith and Wesson and start shooting indiscriminate passages at me.  Because, while I may not be able to quote the bible chapter and verse, I know it's history, and I can field strip your "weapon" in a heartbeat and reveal to you all of its glorious parts.
